Our Mission . . .
|
|
Founding Director Ken Bachtold |
"Art is not a
mirror to hold up to society, but a hammer to shape it."
--- Vladimir Mayakovsky |
|
A Company Of Players is dedicated to developing
the skills of actors and others in the performing arts community, and to
presenting plays that reflect the social, political, and human issues of
our time. |
|
 |
Ours is a two-fold endeavor: a membership
acting company encompassing a full intern program - so that our fully
trained young actors can get the real-world experience they need to be
true and effective on the stage. And soon, a playwright's lab - to show
our new authors with a message the very real path from the page to the
stage. |

Robert Boardman as
Oppenheimer in Louis Lopardi's Purgatory Project |
The great George Bernard Shaw once said:
"Life is no ‘brief candle' to me. It's a splendid torch, which I've
got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as
possible before handing it on to future generations."
|
 |
|
I fully believe that theatre can and should be a galvanizing instrument, an
instrument to inspire audience members to question the purpose and actions
of their lives and to encourage them to examine how they can contribute to
the betterment of the world in which they live. I can think of no better
calling for an artist.
